Digital Photography: Wish List

This wish list is partially a management
mechanism, to keep myself from running out and buying all the
really cool stuff that I find in my research on digital
photography.
To maintain fiscal discipline, I have
decided to only purchase items from this wish list from funds
generated by the stock photography micro-revenue stream.
Further, this wish list starts out
deliberately partial and non-comprehensive. I’ll add to
it as I learn more through not only reading but testing
equipment.
Already, in my early efforts to take
minimally competent photographs, I’ve decided that I want
to upgrade to a digital single-lens reflex camera with an
optical viewfinder, external flash attachment and at least a
resolution of 6 megapixels.
The minimal 6-megapixel picture
resolution criterion is obviously so that I’ll meet the
minimal requirement for professional high-resolution stock
photography.
But why an SLR?
Because the optical viewfinder of an SLR
looks through the lens: what you see is what you get. Already,
with my low-end Kodak Easyshare, I’ve taken too many
pictures of a finger, or the camera wrist-strap, simply because
I didn’t realize they were in the way.
And the external flash?
Because the Kodak’s flash too
easily leaves a flash artifact, a “burned spot,” in
the photograph. Yech.
