As with other sites, BigStockPhoto requires a prospective contributor to open a (free) account on their website, read a tutorial, and take a test in order to contribute photographs.
This site’s page describing most sought-after subjects is terrific! Lots of examples of exactly what they want.
The photographer’s tutorial is three webpages, and includes basic information on copyright requirements, model and building releases, and acceptable photographic standards such as a clear subject and strong colors.
The test is a simple, consisting of a single page of mostly true/false questions with a couple multiple-choice questions.
Once past the test, I was encouraged to fill out a biography or profile.
I am now free to upload photographs, the minimal size being at least 600 pixels high or wide at 72 dpi. (They encourage larger sizes, preferably 1200 pixels at 1200 dpi, up to a maximum of 6 megabytes.) The photographs must be in JPEG format.
I selected five photographs from my existing collection to upload as an initial test of their approval process. One of the photographs is below left, at reduced resolution. It was rejected. See results for all the submissions.
