According to Info Please, on this date in 1896, Henry Ford test drove his first car.

One hundred thirteen years later, Mr. Ford’s car company is the only American auto manufacturer not being driven by Barack Obama for the sole benefit of the United Auto Workers union at the expense of the American taxpayer.
