Digital Camera & Photography Carnival, #32

Welcome to the 32nd weekly Digital Camera & Photography Carnival, a round-up of digital camera and photography news, sponsored by about.com.

Shall we start with a few photography examples? Something to inspire! This time, photoblogging provides the examples. Everyone knows about Flickr, but what about Fotolog? Terabytes of pixels, posted for your inspiration. I’m fascinated by the Random Fotolog link, which is just as likely to send you to an empty fotolog (nothing uploaded yet) as to a circus-themed photo, or a photo of two young friends.

News! We’ve got news.

Darren Hester at Picture Perfect Photography Blog posts about Ning, software that allows you to easily create a new social-network site. Perhaps a new app for your digital photography?

Mr. Hester also posts about MessageHop, a free service to animate digital photos and send them as Flash greetings to friends as email. This may or may not be a true service to humanity…

Digital Photography Review passes along news from Bibble Labs about version 4.7 of Bibble’s Raw Workflow software.

The Photography Blog answers reader questions in Gary’s Parries. It also has a nice news roundup.

A last bit of news: my new camera arrived since the last time I hosted this carnival, and I’ve been participating in John Koontz’s 30-Day Photo Challenge. Today’s entry betrays my continuing fascination with trains. Check out how John Koontz and friends are doing!

A few reviews, shall we?

Better Digital Photography links to reviews of both the Nikon Coolpix L2 (6 megapixels) and its “little brother” the L3 (5 megapixels).

The Coolpix L2 is also reviewed at Megapixel.net (hat tip: Digital Photography Journal) and at Steve’s DigiCams (hat tip: DC Views). See if the reviewers agree or disagree!

Also at Digital Photography Journal, War of the Low Buck dSLRs.

The Canon EOS 30D is reviewed at Digital Photography Review. Spot metering at last! (Has my new Rebel XT been superseded?) In fact, there’s a dedicated website for the EOS 30D.

As I mentioned earlier, my new camera arrived. If you see me, I’ll be shooting with a Canon Digital Rebel XT!

Do you find news here worth reading? Do you agree (or disagree) with my slant on that news? Buy me a cup of coffee! My recipe for a daily cup: 8 ounces of 2% milk, 2 shots of espresso, 4 shakes of ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a topping of light whipped cream. Drop a tip in my jar — whatever amount you want, whatever amount you think I've earned.
