The federal government is gearing up for next year’s decennial census.
Huge amounts of federal money are rained down based on census numbers. That makes the census the target for creative strategies to enhance key population segments.
The nomination of Judd Greg (R-NH) to serve as Commerce Secretary has called forth some of those creative strategies.
According to an article by Jonathan Allen at CQ Politics, the director of the Census Bureau will report directly to the White House rather than to the Secretary of Commerce, because black and Hispanic leaders say that they think Judd won’t fully fund the census.
In other words, they accuse him of planning to fail in his Constitutional responsibility to produce a fair and honest census.
And the White House caved.
If I were Judd, I would remove myself from nomination based on this demonstration of the Administration’s disbelief in my personal integrity.
