The Chancellor and the Pope

Here is the entire CNN Breaking News item:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel demands Pope Benedict XVI reject Holocaust denial.

I have been unable to find a corresponding entry on the main CNN website but did find this on Google’s AP feed:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has entered the row over the Catholic church and holocaust denials by demanding the pope give a “very clear” rejection of them.

Ms Merkel said she “does not believe” there has been “sufficient” clarification after the re-instatement of British-born bishop Richard Williamson, who has questioned whether six million Jews were gassed in Nazi concentration camps.

This is mere posturing on the part of Chancellor Merkel.

Pope Benedict XVI has spent a goodly chunk of his entire life deploring the Holocaust and German support of the Nazi regime.

The revocation of Bishop Williamson’s excommunication means merely that he is welcomed back into the Church after renouncing heresy, not that the Church condones his every word and certainly not that the Church agrees with his hare-brained Holocaust denial.

Yeeps.

My recipe for a daily cup: 8 ounces of 2% milk, 2 shots of espresso, 4 shakes of ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a topping of light whipped cream. Drop a tip in my jar — whatever amount you want, whatever amount you think I've earned.
