ACK and NAK in the Real World

I am just back from Blog World & New Media Expo in Las Vegas.

Mike Arrington was listed on the conference’s homepage as a speaker on the topic of technology. He’s listed on the Blog World speakers page.

But he didn’t show.

From his post yesterday at CrunchNotes, the no-show was caused by a communication misfire. The organizers of Blog World took his “Sure, whatever” as a solid ACK.

Then the organizers depended on email for further communication — email he never saw or responded to.

Whoops.

Yeah, Arrington should have plowed through his email. Uh-huh. Everybody who cleans out his inbox daily, please raise your hand.

Yeah, the organizers should have recognized a lack of response as a clue that the link was down. Sure. Everybody who thinks “No news is good news,” please raise your hand.

Plenty of material available on all sides for everybody to say: oops, I goofed.

Nothing else to see here. Time to move along.

Do you find news here worth reading? Do you agree (or disagree) with my slant on that news? Buy me a cup of coffee! My recipe for a daily cup: 8 ounces of 2% milk, 2 shots of espresso, 4 shakes of ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a topping of light whipped cream. Drop a tip in my jar — whatever amount you want, whatever amount you think I've earned.
