If you enjoy sending quick notes to friends online to stay in touch and perk up their day, then you may also enjoy a new way to mash together photos from Flickr with a message that takes the hassle out of the mash-up.
Suppose you want to make your own “phreeting” (photo + greeting) with a photo of a flower.
This new website, Picture Sandbox, does all the heavy lifting for you. All you have to do is type in a keyword or two, like &ldqo;red flowers.” Picture Sandbox searches for photos on Flickr and displays the search results as thumbnails.
You can click on a thumbnail to see it full size. Or you can click on the discreet icon centered at the top of the window to bring back the search criteria and try another search. Or you can drag-and-drop one of the thumbnails in the frame on the righthand side.
Poompf. Pretty picture.
Then type in your greeting in the space below.
Select a color scheme and click “Preview” to see how it looks.
Once you’re happy, click “Send” and an email pop-up will allow you to send a URL to anyone you wish.
I chose a bright red flower with a blue color scheme: see for yourself.
Unlike previous online greeting card sites, Picture Sandbox allows you to send the link information. So the email that your friend or relative receives is from you, not some random unknown website.
Of course, you’re not limited to searching for photos of red flowers.
You could search for red dresses:
Or exotic birds:
Or a cuddly toy:
A gazillion pix are waiting for you to pair with a perky note to send as a pick-me-up note. What’s not to like?
