Welcome to the Carnival of the Recipes, #112

This is my first time hosting the Carnival of the Recipes, and I’m pleased to do so. While I have your attention, I would like to invite you to explore my website beyond this blog.

Ricky-Bob presents How to Whip up a Last-Minute Romantic Dinner, with Little More than Mold in your Fridge posted at RedneckHealth.com – Health tips and advice for the commonest of men.. A rousingly hilarious send-up of bachelor cooking with dinner as the secondary goal.

Ian presents Vegan Dinner: Gnocchi with Meatless Meatballs and Fried Mushrooms posted at Vegan Dinner. This sounds so good that I wish I could eat wheat pasta. I wonder if somebody somewhere has developed a recipe for wheatless gnocchi?

Cathy, her family’s CFO, provides a treasure: a toddler-tested-and-approved recipe for macaroni and cheese. Any mom would appreciate this.

Kevin Weeks presents Cochifrito posted at Seriously Good. After offering up loud praise for a cookbook, Mr. Weeks includes the first recipe he tested from it. Apparently, the book lived up to its photographs!

Technogypsy teaches cooking, and sends along the lesson plan: recipes for jerky and a pork-tofu dish.

DeputyHeadmistress presents Gypsy Soup posted at The Common Room. This sounds like it could be a solid and flexible addition to my soup collection.

Riannon provides the perfect accompaniment for a good aged steak with a recipe for hash brown potatoes. I love hash browns. My kids don’t. That works out wonderfully whenever we go to a pancake restaurant, because I can’t eat the pancakes but get everybody’s potatoes.

The Wry Rye Guy provides a recipe for Cola Roast Beef that I would have to tweak. I am genetically programmed to loathe the taste of cola! I wonder if Dr. Pepper would work? Don’t let my failing stop you from checking out his recipe!

Chicken & Dumpling Soup at Everything and Nothing reminded me of my mother cooking the dish way too long ago — warm soup and warm memories.

Yoski makes the case for Holy Guacamole! posted at I Pity the Food.

cehwiedel (me!) provides the meatball soup to go with the guacamole, at Kicking Over My Traces. Served with tortilla strips (and that guacamole), this makes a spicy, crunchy and filling supper.

Dessert? Did anybody bring dessert?

Allen Bohart brought Raspberry Cream Crunch, posted at The Dessert Diner. The combination of raspberries with pecans to provide the crunch puts this recipe on my “to-try” list.

NerdMom thinks Snickerdoodles, posted at Nerd Family, make a nice finish to dinner. Who’s to argue?

Joel Fuhrman M.D. at Disease Proof has pomegranates. Also raspberries and blueberries and pineapple and Goji berries…

Christine Torres doesn’t seed the zucchini for Chocolate Zucchini Bread, posted at Morning Coffee & Afternoon Tea. A not-overly-sweet finish for dinner, this bread sounds like it would also make a nice accompaniment for a cup of tea in the afternoon.

Now that we’re done with dinner, we might scoot our chairs back and settle in to talk about food.

Wenchypoo analyzes government fudge factors in An Engineer Dismantles the Food Guide Pyramid (L-O…, posted at Wisdom From Wenchypoo’s Mental Wastebasket. A long post that comes down to understanding that nutritional guidelines are built on statistics and politics — eat healthy, eat until your full, and pay attention to your own medical test results.

Do you find news here worth reading? Do you agree (or disagree) with my slant on that news? Buy me a cup of coffee! My recipe for a daily cup: 8 ounces of 2% milk, 2 shots of espresso, 4 shakes of ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a topping of light whipped cream. Drop a tip in my jar — whatever amount you want, whatever amount you think I've earned.

Thanks for hosting a great carnival!

  2. riannan says:

Thanks, Ceihwiedel, not only did you do a fine carnival, you lured in some new contributors as well.
For that, I’m gonna see if I can find some wheatless gnocchi for you. Since it is basically potato and egg with flour to bind, I’d bet you could do it with cornstarch. We’ll see…

  3. gary says:
