Cypress: School Board Votes To End Public Hearings On School Closures
|
Because of remarks made at last week’s public hearing on school closures at Cawthon Elementary School, the Cypress School District Board of Trustees called a special meeting this afternoon to consider whether to hold a public hearing at Arnold Elementary School.
No hearing had been scheduled for Arnold because, according to Trustee Valeri Peters Wagner, it did not meet the criteria for closure as determined by the Master Facilities Plan Committee.
After discussion among the Trustees and input from among the approximately three dozen members of the audience, the Board voted 4-1 to end public hearings. Trustee David Giese was the sole nay vote. Trustee Donna McDougall was a reluctant aye vote.
The vote means that no public hearing will be held at Arnold.
The Board of Trustees will meet on January 12th to make a final decision on which two school will be closed. Public discussion at that meeting will be limited.
Currently, the location of the January meeting is the educational center at the District Office, 9470 Moody Street. However, District staff is looking for a larger venue.

My recipe for a daily cup: 8 ounces of 2% milk, 2 shots of espresso, 4 shakes of ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a topping of light whipped cream. Drop a tip in my jar — whatever amount you want, whatever amount you think I've earned.zero comments so far »
