La Palma: New Animal Control Ordinance Approved
|
After unanimously approving consent calendar items, the La Palma City Council took up an ordinance repealing and replacing chapter five of the La Palma city code, dealing with animal control. The city’s decades-long contract with Orange County will end on December 31st. On October 20, 2009, the council approved an agreement with Southeast Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA) for animal care and control services effective January 1, 2009. That agreement requires the city to adopt SEAACA’s Model Animal Control Ordinance.
During discussion, staff noted that the agreements approved by the council and by the SEEACA board differ. City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto stated that the differences will be worked out prior to the final council meeting in December. He also stated that adoption of the new ordinance was separate from approval of the amended agreement. The new ordinance was approved unanimously.
SEAACA provides animal services to Buena Park as well as a dozen cities in eastern Los Angeles County. For more information, visit its website at www.seaaca.org.
