Cypress: Pedestrian Killed

On Nov. 19, 2009, at approximately 6:03 a.m., the Cypress Police Department received several 911 calls reporting a traffic accident at the intersection of Knott Ave. and Katella Ave. Callers reported a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The first officers arrived on scene within minutes and reported the pedestrian was unconscious and had shallow breathing and visible injuries. The party that struck the pedestrian was not injured. The Orange County Fire Authority paramedics arrived and treated the pedestrian and transported him to UCI Medical Center in Orange. He was listed in critical condition.
At approximately 8:54 a.m., the pedestrian was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center. The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
The regional Serious Traffic Accident Response (STAR) team was called out to the scene and is handling the investigation. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call the Cypress Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau at (714) 229-6603. The other party’s identity is not being released. The driver has not been charged with a crime as the accident remains under investigation.
