The City of Cypress held its 2010 State of the City event on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Cypress Community Center. More than 200 attended the event to hear
the Mayor’s message. During Mayor Dr. Prakash Narain’s State of the City address, the 1st Annual BRACE and AGENT Program Awards were unveiled with the announcement of the Business of the Year winners for 2010.

The large Cypress business selected for the BRACE Award was Mary Kay, Inc. The Mayor noted Mary Kay’s continuous efforts in improving the environment by their
“Pink Doing Green” Program. The Mayor also extended a special thank you to Ms. Terry Van Cleave, Director & General Manager of Mary Kay Cosmetics for being an “avid supporter of the City’s BRACE Program.”

The small to mid-size business selected for the AGENT Program Award was Intelli-Flex. The company was one of Orange County’s 100 fastest growing private
companies in 2009 with a two-year revenue growth of 26%, and is a single-source provider of network convergence solutions and services. Mayor Narain congratulated Cory Stephens, CEO of Intelli-Flex, and his staff for their success.

BRACE is the City’s “Business Retention, Attraction, Creation & Expansion” Program, a forum for the larger business leaders to come together to network and share
ideas through quarterly forums. The AGENT program, or “Assist, Grow, Educate, Network & Thrive” is similar to the BRACE Program but geared towards small to midsize businesses. The City in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, hosts quarterly free educational programs to address the needs of Cypress’ small to mid-size business community.

The next BRACE Program forum will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Cypress Community Center, 5700 Orange
Avenue. The featured speaker is Dr. Niklas Myhr, PhD, Professor of Marketing, Argyros School of Business & Economics, Chapman University, who will touch on social media marketing. For more information or to RSVP, call the Cypress Economic Development Department at (714) 229-6671.
