Carnival of the Capitalists v2.0, issue 2 is hosted this week by Mike from PartnerUp, the social network for entrepreneurs.

• Nikole Gipps at Small Business Essentials insists that ”Gas Stations Don’t Need Blogs.” She presents a good argument that a gas station owner can better spend his time elsewhere. But that gas station might benefit from a static website, depending on its particular circumstances. How can a small business owner gauge the utility of a static web site? One criterion I use is how much time is spent on the phone answering questions that don’t much change, like location and hours of operation and special services offered beyond a fill-up. If enough repetitive phone-answering can instead be handled by a static web site, it makes sense to create that web site.

• Wayne Hurlbert at Blog Business World goes green in Home offices: Capitalism helping the environment. As you read today’s news about hysterical politicians demanding a fix for a recession that hasn’t even happened yet, reread this post. Keep these words in mind: “The competitive enterprise system, when left alone to solve problems and seek profits, creates unexpected benefits for everyone.”
