Carnival of Hurricane Relief, #107

This is the 107th Carnival of Hurricane Relief. For the first time since records have been kept, two category 5 hurricanes have formed in the same season: first Dean, then Felix. Humberto, a smaller storm, came ashore this week at the Texas/Louisiana border. A new tropical depression is already forming. Keep your emergency plans up-to-date.

The first Carnival of Hurricane Relief was hosted by Glenn Reynolds at the urging of Hugh Hewitt with the support of N.Z. Bear in direct response to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast in 2005. It also includes areas damaged by Hurricanes Rita and Wilma.

Hosts are needed! Posts are needed! Pictures are needed!

See the CoHR homepage for details.

Wind Shear Tutorial
Meterologist Dr. Jeff Masters has posted a tutorial on wind shear, a weather condition that is currently beating the beejus out of Tropical Storm Karen. I was amused to note that the first illustration of the tutorial features Hurricane Wilma, which chased me out of Florida where I had been attending a technical conference.
