This Week’s Carnival of the Capitalists is Up!
Hosted by Will Crawford at Integrative Stream.
Here are the first three posts that caught my eye, with a reason for why they might interest a One-Man Band:
-
The first-click-through award goes to Josh Dorkin at TimeForBlogging for “Creating an Effective Business Logo Design” because every One-Man Band needs to toot its own horn, and a serviceable logo is a good way to do that. Manpower is a huge limiting factor for a One-Man Band (duh), so anything that can be done once but maintains a positive return on that sunk effort is worth the time invested. The link to SitePoint — which I had never heard of — is worth reading this post all by itself, but the evolution of the logo for Mr. Dorkin’s own company also amused.
-
The second-click-through award goes to Silicon Valley Blogger at The Digerati Life for “6 Ways We’re Managing Our Finances and Our Emotions While Starting A Business” because anyone in business alone rides a wild roller coaster. Tips on managing finances while not despairing or desponding are greatly appreciated, thank you! My favorite:
#6 Get part-time jobs, contracting work or other side income to tide you over.
I’ve heard of would be entrepreneurs keeping full time jobs while growing a side business. This worked for Pierre Omidyar, who founded eBay by accident while he worked full time while maintaining a hobby that turned into that renowned auction site. But we’re doing the opposite: my spouse has ditched the full time employment for full time risk and what he claims is uninterrupted productivity. In the meantime, we’ll supplement our income with whatever’s available, to ease the financial burden even just a little.Freelance through Elance? Compete through SitePoint? Both these sites are for design. You would have to define your “contract work” and look for something comparable in that field.
-
The one-more-before-the-door award goes to The Laundry Capitalist for “Price Wise” because every One-Man Band should make a conscious decision on how to price what its product. My favorite line from this post:
[Unapologetic pricing] has nothing to do with high end demographics or anything like that believe me. It has to do with pricing your store for maximum cash flow. Do you want to be in this business to make good money – or do you just want to tell everyone you own a laundromat?
As always, there are more posts than the three listed. Click through for the full Carnival atmosphere.
Technorati tags: Business, Management, Marketing, Online Business, Online Management, Online Marketing, Pricing, Solopreneurship.

Hey! I’m glad you enjoyed my post on logos. Thanks for including it in your carnival!

My pleasure. Any post that provides something new is valuable, and yours provided two useful new websites *plus* the amusing evolution of your company’s logo. Quite a treat.
