Carnival of Hurricane Relief, #74
This is the 74th Carnival of Hurricane Relief. The first was hosted by Glenn Reynolds at the urging of Hugh Hewitt with the support of N.Z. Bear in direct response to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast. It also includes areas damaged by Hurricanes Rita and Wilma.
Hosts are needed! Posts are needed! Pictures are needed!
See the CoHR homepage for details.
| Name/Handle | Blog | Post Description |
| Miss Malaprop | Miss Malaprop | 3rd Place in Etsy’s Upcycling Contest! Blue FEMA tarps upcycled to a stylish gown — NOLA’s own Miss Malaprop shows how to make lemonade! |
| Leslie | Katrina Network | Letter of the Week 02/08 The indefatigable Leslie posts a letter from Terra, the founder of the Citizen Action Team Relief Database. (Leslie is joining the regular rotation of CoHR hosts beginning with next week’s edition. Thanks, Leslie!) |
| Seawitch | Thoughts by Seawitch | Weep for New Orleans A look at the problems with Louisiana’s Road Home program. |
| Maida Owens | Beyond Katrina | Adventures of a Roving Ethnographer (3) A slice of Cajun life: above-ground tombs in Napoleonville, LA, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Pix! |
| Mark Folse | Wet Bank Guide | Throw Me Somthin’, Mister Advertiser So Mardi Gras isn’t Pasadena’s Rose Parade… come to think of it, the Rose Parade isn’t run from Pasadena City Hall. That might explain a lot. |
| Fitch N. DarDar | The Third Battle of New Orleans | Peyton Manning — Champion If the Saints couldn’t win the Super Bowl, at least a native got revenge. (See this week’s banner illustration of boorish Bears fans.) |
| BayouStJohnDavid | Moldy City | NBC Update Anchored from New Orleans. |
| MS Forestry Association | Hurricane Katrina Forest Recovery | USM Returning Some Classes to Gulf Park Good news for the Mississippi Gulf Coast communities: the University of Southern Mississippi is coming back. |
| The Onion | FEMA Calls Rebuilding Complete The Onion provides exclusive coverage of the restoration of New Orleans to its former squalor. Yes, folks: it’s satire. And it is way too painfully funny. |
|
| cehwiedel | Kicking Over My Traces | Levee War in NOLA The U.S. Corps of Engineers wants to shift funds for rebuilding levees to where the people are from where the people were. No, folks: this isn’t satire. It’s likely to work itself out as a painful true-life farce. |
Special Note: A Squidoo Lens has been created for CoHR.
A Squidoo Lens is a way to organize online information.
Four small payments have been made to
the Grameen Foundation USA
based on income derived from the CoHR Squidoo Lens.
However worthy in itself, the Grameen Foundation USA
is not a good fit for CoHR.
We would prefer to donate the income to a local charity working directly on Gulf Coast recovery.
We encourage Gulf Coast charities
to register with Squidoo
and let CoHR know.
