Tomatoes In The West Sideyard
There are streets on the East Coast that are only now getting plowed after the back-to-back blizzards.
But here in Southern California, I planted tomatoes this afternoon.
For some odd reason, the narrow planter on the west side of our garage grows tomatoes like gangbusters. I would think that it doesn’t get enough sun, squeezed between our garage and the neighbors. But if I plant tomatoes there, I get bushels. Even the volunteer tomatoes have to be pulled up and hacked back to prevent the disappearance of small children.
This year I planted a yellow pear heirloom and a Roma. Until the weather warms a bit more, no fruit will set. But once fruit sets and ripes, those two plants should keep me in tomatoes through at least Thanksgiving.
